The concept behind the Rings at Discovery Green was to create a distinct seating and dining area under an existing bosque of trees. The design team wished to suspend signature lighting above the tables without adding additional poles or infrastructure. As the fixtures were to be suspended from the tree branches at whimsical angles, weight of the 12’ diameter fixtures was crucial. G2LD devised a custom-built aluminum ring only a few inches wide that could house a bendable linear light fixture in both the up and down positions. Drivers were placed remotely to minimize weight and size. Though not visible from the ground level, the upper fixture serves to uplight the tree canopy for additional affect and allows the rings themselves to be seen from surrounding high rise hotels.
